 | "We Deliver a lot more than mail!" |
Queen Anne Dispatch (QAD) started in a small building at 1905 Queen Anne Avenue. We only did shipping for the first year and then opened a small giftshop next to QAD in an old Victorian house. The property sold so I moved to 1509 Queen Anne Avenue next to Ace Hardware. We have since moved into the Reed Wright building at 2212 Queen Anne Avenue and hope to be here forever.
We love our current location and fashioned the interior of the store after an old department store started in 1914 at 7th and Pike, called "Shoucair's Department Store." Bothers Nick and Eli Shoucair were friends of mine and they kept the store open until the 1980's. The old balcony was the model for our mural done by a friend from Lynchburg, Virginia.
It has been our pleasure also to consult and mentor to tow other businesses similar to mine. Alki Mail and Dispatch and Ballard Sip and Ship. Alki has been alive and thriving since 1990 and Ballard Dispatch Sip and Ship (say that fast) has been open for nearly 3 years. The owners of Sip and Ship, Diana and Steve Naramore moved to Seattle, fell in love with our store and concept. They worked here to learn the business and bought the old Medicine Man Pharmacy Building at 1752 Market which is now the Ballard Sip and Ship.
Owning a small business and living in the community for 40 years really lets you connect with the residents. The small business community is so supportive of one another.
